Donegal

Classic Travelling has created a lovely tour to Donegal in North West Ireland, where the Wild Atlantic Way begins. We love this area of Ireland which is steeped in Irish heritage, natural beauty and hidden gems. Itinerary

Day 1:  Dublin to Donegal

160 Miles

Check in at Holyhead for the 09.00 ferry to Dublin arriving at 12.15.

Follow route via Northern Ireland across to Lough Eske, where your hotel for five nights is located. You have time to explore the resort which sits on the edge of the Lough, surrounded by the Blue Stack Mountains.

Day 2:  Glenveagh National Park

106 Miles

Today our picturesque route takes us to Glenveagh Castle and Park, there is time to explore the expansive grounds before a guided visit of the castle arranged for the group. The daily distances are set so that you can enjoy a good drive but arrive back at the hotel in time to enjoy its surroundings.

Day 3:  Slieve League Cliffs

90 Miles

Todays route takes us to the unmissable Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) Cliffs, some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. The route is lined with points of interest all detailed in your roadbook, whether you wish to visit award winning distilleries, take in as much of the Wild Atlantic Way as possible or simply enjoy the famous Irish hospitality in the quaint villages along the way.

Day 4:  Day off

Have a relaxed Irish breakfast before driving in to the historic town of Donegal. The town is just 15 minutes drive from the hotel and overlooks the bay. Enjoy a cruise on the Donegal Bay Waterbus, a walking tour of Donegal Castle or simply enjoy the bars, restaurants and shops around the town.

Day 5:  Fanad Head Lighthouse

122 Miles

Head to the Northerly tip of the Wild Atlantic Way to visit Fanad Head and it’s Lighthouse. We recommend a stop in Letterkenny, the county’s largest town.

Day 6:  Back to Dublin

160 Miles

After breakfast you make your way back to the port of Dublin for the 14.45 – 18.20 sailing back to Holyhead in Wales.
