Classic Travelling invites you to spend a leisurely day exploring the quiet beauty and enduring charm of the Yorkshire Dales. Known for its broad green valleys, ancient stone walls, and sweeping moorland views, the Dales offer some of the most rewarding and peaceful drives in the country. We will gather from 10am at the Goat Gap Café, a welcoming spot with wide views across to Ingleborough, one of Yorkshire’s famous Three Peaks. Over fresh coffee and pastries, there will be time to admire the cars, get to know one another and enjoy the calm surroundings before we set off. At around 10:45, we will set out on a two-hour drive through the heart of the Dales. The roads here rise and fall with the land, following centuries-old routes across open moors and along valley bottoms. We will head East passing a few sheep along the way before driving back down towards Harrogate. Around 1pm we will regroup at Hay Café – a charming spot in the rolling countryside serving simple, wholesome food with an emphasis on local produce. It is the perfect place to take a break and grab a light lunch before we continue driving.
The afternoon brings another two and a half hour’s drive, this time along quieter lanes that wind beside rivers, pass hidden waterfalls, and meander through villages built of the soft grey stone that gives the Dales their distinctive look. The scenery here has changed little over the centuries, and there is something special about travelling through it in a classic car. Our day concludes with a pre-ordered two-course dinner at Simonstone Hall, a handsome country house hotel above Hawes, with sweeping views across Wensleydale. Its likely before we dine you will have chance to explore the town of Hawes, along with any other prior stops that take your interest along the way! You may wish to take advantage of preferential overnight rates and stay on after dinner.
