Day 3:  South to Sossusvlei

190 Miles

This morning you will walk with the indigenous people of the Kalahari, the San bushmen  and learn about the ancient traditions and secrets of their ancestors, get to know their survival skills. On the walk, you will be shown how to collect water in ostrich eggs, how to set traps, and which plants are suitable for medicine. This is a truly unforgettable experience and a fantastic way to touch African culture.

Then head west to stunning Sossusvlei, descending from the central plateau into NamibNaukluft National Park. Notice a change in scenery from a grassy savannah to a desert landscape whilst keeping your eyes peeled for roaming oryx, springbok, ostrich and the occasional blue wildebeest.

Stay for two nights in an amazing hotel nestled in the pristine desert.

Relax by the inviting pool, go for a hike around the lodge or opt for a scenic quad bike excursion. You won’t want to miss the magical Namibia sunset from the outside sundowner bar and fire pit!

Day 4:  Explore the Sossusvlei

40 Miles

Experience the mesmerising landscapes of Sossusvlei. Explore the Sesriem Canyon and the region’s iconic dunes. Capture the ethereal beauty of the desert.

Climb on one of the world’s highest sand dunes for spectacular views  of contrasts between a blinding white saltpan, the rusted red of the surrounding dunes, and scorched black of ancient trees at Deadvlei.

There is the option of a hot air balloon flight or a quad biking excursion.

Day 5:  The Atlantic Coast

220 Miles

Head north through the Namib-Naukluft National Park then cross the Tropic of Capricorn, and drive through the Kuiseb Canyon with always-changing scenery.

Day 6:  Inland to Damaraland

210 Miles

Continue northwards to the Cape Cross Seal Sanctuary to see thousands of seals.

Head back inland to Brandberg, best known for its ancient ‘White Lady’ rock painting. Entering beautiful Damaraland feels like going back in time. These ancient landscapes, scattered with enormous boulders and dry riverbeds, house the more than 2,500 rock engravings at the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Twyfelfontein which we shall visit.
Stay for two nights in a luxury lodge. Room upgrades are available here.

Day 7:  Damaraland

An early start for the dry Huab River nature drive to explore the surrounding area and search for animal life such as the desert-adapted elephants.

Damaraland is one of Namibia’s most dramatic collections of landscapes, and one of Southern Africa’s most underrated wildlife-watching areas. One of Namibia’s last ‘unofficial’ wildlife regions, it’s home to critically endangered black rhinos, desert-adapted lions and elephants, as well as the full range of Namibia specialities such as gemsbok, zebra, giraffe and spotted hyena.

Enjoy a visit to the Damara Living Museum.

Day 8:  Palmwag & Kunene

100 Miles

The Kunene region is also known as Namibia’s last wilderness.

Visit the Petrified Forest, a geological formation from 280 million years ago. Huge trees were carried by a river and buried here. Sand was deposited around them, creating ideal conditions for the cells of the wood to be replaced by silica and thus became petrified.

This evening enjoy a guided scenic Sundowner Drive along the Etendeka Plateau as the sun sets. Witness a diverse array of wildlife, from the usual sightings of oryx or kudu to the striking Hartmann’s zebra, and perhaps even a glimpse of a leopard or lion.

Day 9:  Drive to Etosha

200 Miles

This region is home to the Himba people, many of whom have an authentic, nomadic lifestyle where life is organized around cattle. An optional visit to a Himba settlement will give more insight into their way of life and traditions.

We will proceed to Etosha National Park in time for an afternoon guided game drive in an open-sided 4×4 vehicle. Stay overnight in a beautiful safari lodge.

Day 10:  Into Etosha

130 Miles

Etosha is one of Africa’s largest game parks, much of which is covered by the silver Etosha salt pan that shimmers in the heat.

To the south of the pan there are open grasslands, woodland and permanent waterholes that act as a magnet for game.

Drive to the east of Etosha for a two-night stay at a fabulous lodge and tented camp.

End the day with a sundowner game drive.

Day 11:  Experience Etosha

Start the day with a sunrise game drive in the Onguma Private Reserve.

Then enjoy a full day safari in your own vehicle or being driven in in one of the lodge game viewing vehicles. This park is semi-arid hence animals depend on springs and waterholes for water. We will be visiting these waterholes all day to look around for lions, cheetahs and leopards.

There will be a fabulous bush dinner this evening. You will get to experience the unique splendour of dinner under a blanket of a million stars with the distant cries of animals in the air and the smells of a fire-cooked meal wafting over from the pop-up bush kitchen.

Day 12:  Okonjima Nature Reserve

220 Miles

Drive south from Etosha and stay overnight in a superb camp where there will be a game drive.

Famed for the regular sightings of leopard, brown hyaena and pangolin during safaris, the Okonjima Nature Reserve is also the dwelling place of The AfriCat Foundation which conducts one of Namibia’s longest-running Leopard Monitoring Projects.

Day 13:  To Windhoek

130 Miles

Head south to Windhoek where there is time to explore the capital. Check into the same hotel as our first night and enjoy a farewell dinner and  final night in Namibia.
