Botswana

November 1, 2027

This is the essence of safari: Victoria Falls, the Big Five, the mighty Zambezi River, classic safari tents, premier lodges, sunset gin & tonics, and unforgettable game viewing both on land and along the river.

Botswana is one of Africa’s most inspiring destinations, celebrated for its strong commitment to conservation and low-impact tourism. Its landscapes range from the vast Kalahari Desert to the shimmering waterways of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its pristine wilderness and remarkable wildlife.

Home to iconic reserves such as Chobe and Moremi, Botswana offers exceptional game viewing, including elephants, big cats, and an extraordinary diversity of birdlife. The country’s sustainable tourism model helps protect these habitats while supporting local communities.

Botswana’s cultural heritage is equally rich, shaped by diverse ethnic groups including the Tswana people. Traditional music, dance, and art remain central to community life, with festivals and celebrations offering visitors a warm and authentic connection to the country’s vibrant spirit.

Safaris in Botswana command a higher price point — and with good reason, not least the remoteness of many of the camps. The country is committed to a low-impact, high-value conservation model, intentionally limiting visitor numbers to safeguard its delicate ecosystems while offering travellers rare exclusivity and uninterrupted wilderness. You will find the investment worthwhile for the privacy, exceptional guiding and the knowledge that your stay directly supports conservation initiatives and local communities.

The tour will start at Kasane, Botswana, and you can fly home from either Kasane or Maun, Botswana. The provisional dates are 1-13 November 2027

Itinerary

Day 1:  Chobe National Park

10 Miles

Arrive at Kasane Airport and collect your hire 4×4.

Drive to Chobe Game Lodge for a three-night stay in the Chobe National Park, a great patchwork of deep, dense forest, sprawling wetlands and zebra-grazed grasslands.

Located on the banks of the stunning Chobe River, the lodge is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The lodge provides luxurious accommodation and exceptional service, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay for guests.

The woodlands of Chobe National Park provide the perfect setting for extraordinary safari excursions. A sunrise game drive catches the animals at their most-active time of day while a Chobe River safari cruise ushers you into the realm of crocodiles, hippos and the elephants that come down to drink and play in the water. The park’s beautiful wetlands also lure a wealth of birdlife to the region, and you may glimpse many of the 460 species.

Day 2:  Safari Drive or Cruise

Enjoy a choice of land and water-based activities offering one of the most complete wildlife experiences in Chobe National Park.

Expert guides lead early morning and late afternoon game drives in electric safari vehicles, providing a quiet, immersive way to explore the park. You may also experience silent river safaris aboard solar-powered electric boats on the Chobe River.

There are excellent chances of seeing elephants — around 120,000 roam the park — along with impala, buffalo and possibly lions.

Day 3:  Victoria Falls

A full day excursion to Victoria Falls, one of the world’s great natural wonders.

Drive into Zimbabwe’s rolling highveld for an unforgettable exploration of Victoria Falls. Here, the Zambezi plunges more than 350 feet into the gorge below, sending up the billowing mist that inspired its original name, Mosi oa TunyaThe Smoke That Thunders.

The sheer power and beauty of the falls will leave you speechless. You can feel the mist on your face as you walk along the trails, taking in the panoramic views from various viewpoints. The lush greenery surrounding the falls adds to the natural beauty of the area. It’s a place where you can truly appreciate the wonders of nature and feel a sense of awe and reverence.

A visit to Victoria Falls is an experience that will stay with you forever.

Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4:  Namibia

160 Miles

Cross into Namibia and drive into the Caprivi Strip, now known as the Bwabwata National Park, the long, narrow panhandle of the country. Stay for two nights in a beautifully appointed luxury tent at an intimate. boutique riverside lodge.

Day 5:  Bwabwata National Park

Choose between a game drive or a guided bush walk in Bwabwata National Park, part of Africa’s largest transfrontier conservation area and home to approximately 295,000 elephants. The region is a paradise for birders with over 450 species, and sightings may include buffalo, sable and roan antelope, waterbuck, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog and hippo.

Day 6:  Okavango River

140 Miles

Continue through the Bwabwata National Park for a further two-night stay at another luxury tented camp.

Day 7:  River Cruise

Enjoy a tranquil river cruise, ideal for birdwatching and wildlife viewing along the waterways.

Day 8:  Drive to Maun

250 Miles

Head south to Maun and settle into your luxury lodge. This afternoon includes a special giraffe encounter, offering the chance to observe these elegant animals up close, learn how to identify individuals, and understand the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.

Day 9:  Okavango Delta

After breakfast fly from Maun to Camp Moremi for a two-night stay in a luxury safari tent. This camp is only accessible at this time of year by small aircraft. You will have a fantastic birds-eye view of the Okavango Delta. Have your camera ready!

You will arrive at Camp Moremi around lunch time. After check-in and lunch, you have the option to join a guided game drive led by one of the lodge’s professional guides. Get your camera and binoculars ready, sit back and enjoy the adventure of looking for wildlife!

Day 10:  Camp Moremi

Your stay at Camp Moremi includes two scheduled activities offered by the camp: guided game drives or a boat cruise safari in the Xakanaxa Lagoon and channels. Adventure awaits!

You’re staying in one of the loveliest tented camps anywhere in Moremi Game Reserve at Camp Moremi. Trees surround and shade the camp, and the safari tents will make you feel like you’re sleeping in your own private corner of the Okavango Delta.

Wildlife, including elephants, often wanders through camp, and there’s a pool, and appealing lounge, dining and bar areas.

Day 11:  Xugana Island

Transfer by air to Xugana Island, also in the Okavango Delta.

The land becomes a maze of water, islands, and channels. Elephants come in their hundreds. Buffalo, too. Antelope scatter through the shallows like quicksilver, and lions follow the paths they make, on the hunt. A fish eagle cries, sharp and high. Storks march through the water on legs as long as reeds.

In the heart of this ecological wonder, water finds a place to rest in the Xugana Lagoon. This is widely regarded as the most beautiful of all the permanent water sites in the Okavango Delta, and Xugana Island Lodge is your stunning springboard to experience it.

Day 12:  Water Wonderland

Take the motorboat through the channels, the morning air cool on your face. This is an entirely different perspective of the wilderness, seen from its shimmering heart. Stillness meets quiet thrill. Waterways lead to lagoons awake with life. Channels weave like liquid pathways through a maze of papyrus, and you have the chance to see the elephants and hippos that carved them.

Drift in a mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), the pole cutting clean lines through the water. Reeds whisper as you drift past, dragonflies hover like suspended light, and the air is alive with the quiet chorus of frogs and birds. From this eye-level vantage point, every detail becomes sharper—the curve of a water lily, the flicker of a tiny reed frog. It’s a journey that invites you to exhale, listen, and simply be.

Day 13:  Depart for Home

Leave Xugana Island and fly to Maun or Kasane for a return flight home.
