The Route & Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival
Day 1
Arrive at the magnificent Matfen Hall in the Northumberland countryside. Arrive by car or via private transfer from Edinburgh or your preferred airport before gathering for a relaxed welcome dinner & ceremony to begin the tour.
Day 2
Sporting Day
Day 2
Our first sporting day takes place on a superb Northumberland estate, offering exceptional pheasant & partridge shooting and
traditional field hospitality. In the evening we return to Matfen Hall for dinner. Recommendations & drivers for non-shooting guests will also be available on each Sporting day.
Day 3
Scenic Drive to Yorkshire
Day 3
Our first grand touring day takes a beautifully scenic route across the Pennines and into the Yorkshire Dales. After a light lunch stop along the way, we arrive at our hotel with time to relax before our private dinner.
Day 4
Sporting Day
Day 4
After breakfast we have a short drive to today’s shoot for a superb day in the field. Once again, brilliant pheasant & partridge drives will be on offer along with more wonderful hospitality in the Yorkshire countryside .
Day 5
Scenic Drive to the Cotswolds
Day 5
A combination of scenic & fast roads south takes us from Yorkshire towards the Cotswolds. En route an optional stop fornlunch at the superb Chatsworth House before continuing to Ellenborough Park for a two-night stay.
Day 6
Sporting Day
Day 6
Our final sporting day takes place at a renowned shoot in the Cotswolds with more fabulous pheasant & partridge drives on offer. This evening, we celebrate the tour with a farewell dinner and awards ceremony at Ellenborough

Who is this tour designed for?
The Grand Sporting Tour has been created for those who appreciate exceptional British driven shooting combined with luxury accommodation, fine dining and beautiful countryside. Whether travelling with friends or a non-shooting partner, the tour offers an unforgettable hosted sporting experience.
Can non-shooting guests join the tour?
Absolutely. Non-shooting guests are warmly welcomed and play an important part in the experience. They are welcome to accompany their Gun into the field to enjoy the atmosphere and traditional shoot hospitality, or they may choose from a range of private excursions, sightseeing experiences, scenic drives or spa visits arranged by our concierge service.
What standard of shooting should I expect?
The tour visits four highly regarded sporting estates offering a variety of driven pheasant and partridge shooting. Guests should expect challenging yet enjoyable sport, superb hospitality and professionally managed shoot days representative of the very best of British game shooting.
Do I need to bring my own shotgun?
No. Guests are welcome to bring their own shotgun, and we can assist with UK temporary import arrangements where required. Alternatively, high-quality gun hire can be arranged through William Powell Sporting prior to your arrival
Are loaders/instructors available?
Yes. Professional loaders can be arranged upon request and are recommended for guests wishing to make the most of the higher bird days. Please let us know your requirements when booking.
What should I wear?
Traditional shooting attire is recommended, including tweed clothing, waterproof outerwear, suitable country boots, eye and ear protection, and warm layers appropriate for Autumn conditions. A detailed recommended packing list will be provided before departure.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, overseas medical expenses, baggage and personal liability. Guests should also ensure their policy covers participation in driven game shooting.
Can the bird numbers change?
Yes. The advertised bird numbers are based on the anticipated number of Guns participating. Should the final number of Guns differ, bag sizes may be adjusted proportionately to maintain an appropriate bird-to-Gun ratio and preserve the quality of the sporting experience.
How many guests will be on the tour?
The Grand Sporting Tour is intentionally limited to a small number of guests, ensuring a relaxed atmosphere, personal hosting and an exceptional level of service throughout the week.
